Support

A lot of our support is given personally by phone but this page has been developed too:

TASCAM
Firmware is kept updated for new features and improved performance and there are downloads for most models:
DR40
DR100 MkII
DR05

ZOOM

H4n (reintroduced as H4NSP)
Firmware updates are available from here, currently version 1.72 (June 2011). The latest firmware introduces separately adjustable left and right inputs for external mics - a great step forward, and only 2 1/2 years late.

We have a Quick Guide to using your Zoom H4n, telling you some of the things that aren’t always clear from the manual. Call or email for a copy (Inquit customers only, clearly).

Occasionally, some more recent H4n’s have exhibited an issue whereby recordings made on auto record level can occasionally drop in level spontaneously. It is not clear why this happens, but the workaround seems to be to record with manual levelling.

H6
Firmware is currently v2.0 and can be downloaded here.

There are also utilities to work with M/S files and some extra drivers. Worth a look.

H5
We have a Quick Guide to using your Zoom H5, telling you some of the things that aren’t always clear from the manual. Call or email for a copy (Inquit customers only, clearly).

Firmware updated to v2.0 - added ability to generate tones for video sync, possibly other improvements too. Download here

MARANTZ

NB: Marantz was taken over in 2014 by InMusic Brands; downloads of firmware seem impossible now, without sending a query anyway.

PMD661
We supply Lexar memory cards because we have always found them reliable and predictable. Other cards may not perform as well and we suggest that when you need new cards you get Lexar (hopefully from us, but available elsewhere).

Check you are using the latest firmware for your PMD661; the latest is A 2.03 from 17.6.2011 which improves SD card compatibility. Contact us for updates for PMD660 and PMD661 (Inquit customers only, clearly)..

PMD660 (discontinued)
We have a Quick Guide on using your PMD660, designed to tell you some of the things they don’t tell you in the manual; if you didn’t receive one or can’t find it,  email for a copy (Inquit customers only, clearly).

The PMD660 was always picky about the sorts of Compact Flash cards it would work with. CF cards should be homogeneous but unfortunately they aren’t; there are unpredictable differences between brands which can catch you out. It likes slow cards - you only need a 2x card to record uncompressed CD quality audio files. We used to supply 12x cards but these are unobtainable now, and our current card is a Lexar 80x which seems to work reliably in a 660. One customer bought a new card in Maplin’s which didn’t work and cost twice as much as ours. Do give us a call!

Firmware is now user upgradeable, with the current version being 1.17 - contact us for update  (Inquit customers only, clearly)..

PMD620
It looks as though the PMD620 may be a little picky about the SD cards it takes. There’s online comment that Kingston and Transcend may give problems, and one of our customers had trouble with a Fuji card (recorder would not start up properly). The Lexar cards we supply have no reported problems.

Firmware is now user upgradeable, with the current version being 2.34 - contact us for update  (Inquit customers only, clearly)..

ROLAND

R-26  Now firmware at version 1.12 (October 2013). Download from here

R-44 (formerly Edirol)  Now firmware at version 1.21. Download from here

We have a Quick Guide to using your R-44, telling you some of the things that aren’t always clear from the manual. Call or email for a copy (Inquit customers only, clearly).

FOSTEX FR2-LE
There are three firmware updates for this model, the latest is 1.30. Download from here

SONY MZ-RH1 Minidisc recorder
Now there is upload software for Mac users (previously Windows only). Download it here
It is very difficult to find a copy of Sonic Stage any more, since Sony pulled the plug on everything Minidisc. If you are renting our MZ-RH1 we have a CD of an old version; if you find a link anywhere to Sonic Stage please let us know!

LAPEL MICROPHONES

Some customers report problems from clothing or jewellery rubbing against lapel (lavalier) microphones and causing clicks and noises. There is an alternative clip available from Audio Technica which lifts the mic about 1cm from the clothing it’s attached to, and which appears to be quite effective. The AT8417 clip is the standard clip for the AT803 and AT831 lavaliers and is £9.95 plus post. Order here

If you have hints and tips to pass on to other recording equipment users let us have them and we’ll try and add them to these pages; please email
